چکیده

This paper studies the ambiguity of morphisms in free monoids. A morphism σ is said to be ambiguous with respect to a string α if there exists a morphism τ which differs from σ for a symbol occurring in α, but nevertheless satisfies τ(α) = σ(α); if there is no such τ then σ is called unambiguous. Motivated by the recent initial paper on the ambiguity of morphisms, we introduce the definition of a so-called segmented morphism σn, which, for any n ∈ N, maps every symbol in an infinite alphabet onto a word that consists of n distinct factors in aba, where a and b are different letters. For every n, we consider the set U(σn) of those finite strings over an infinite alphabet with respect to which σn is unambiguous, and we comprehensively describe its relation to any U(σm), m 6= n. Thus, our work features the first approach to a characterisation of sets of strings with respect to which certain fixed morphisms are unambiguous, and it leads to fairly counter-intuitive insights into the relations between such sets. Furthermore, it shows that, among the widely used homogeneous morphisms, most segmented morphisms are optimal in terms of being unambiguous for a preferably large set of strings. Finally, our paper yields several major improvements of crucial techniques previously used for research on the ambiguity of morphisms.

On morphisms of crossed polymodules

‎In this paper‎, ‎we prove that the category of crossed polymodules (i.e‎. ‎crossed modules of polygroups) and their morphisms is finitely complete‎. ‎We‎, ‎therefore‎, ‎generalize the group theoretical case of this completeness property of crossed modules‎.

Toroidalization of locally toroidal morphisms of 3-folds

A toroidalization of a dominant morphism $varphi: Xto Y$ of algebraic varieties over a field of characteristic zero is a toroidal lifting of $varphi$ obtained by performing sequences of blow ups of nonsingular subvarieties above $X$ and $Y$. We give a proof of toroidalization of locally toroidal morphisms of 3-folds.

Valuations and Unambiguity of Languages, with Applications to Fractal Geometry

Valuations | morphisms from ((; ; e) to ((0; 1); ; 1) | are a simple generalization of Bernoulli morphisms (distributions, measures) as introduced in 11, 5]. This paper shows that valuations are not only useful within the theory of codes, but also when dealing with ambiguity, especially in regular expressions and con-textfree grammars, or for deening outer measures on the space of !-words which...

Unambiguity and Fewness for Logarithmic Space 3 (preliminary Version, January 1991)

We consider various types of unambiguity for logarithmic space bounded Turing machines and polynomial time bounded log space auxiliary push-down automata. In particular, we introduce the notions of (general), reach, and strong unambiguity. We demonstrate that closure under complement of unambiguous classes implies equivalence of unambiguity and \unambiguous fewness". This, as we will show, appl...

Injectivity of the Parikh Matrix Mappings Revisited

We deal with the notion of M-unambiguity [5] in connection with the Parikh matrix mapping introduced by Mateescu and others in [7]. M-unambiguity is studied both in terms of words and matrices and several sufficient criteria for M-unambiguity are provided in both cases, nontrivially generalizing the criteria based on the γ-property introduced by Salomaa in [15]. Also, the notion of M-unambiguit...
